Things to do in Calgary this April
MakeFashion Gala and Runway Show 5.0
On April 1, MakeFashion will be hosting a gala and runway show to showcase high-tech fashion. This event will feature the work of 22 design teams and will include items that feature ground breaking technology. Calgary's own Trip the Light Dance Co., Mudge Music, and DJ Paul Sanders will be performing live at this event. Tickets range from $30-$180, and you can find more information here.
This is My City Festival 2017
From April 3 to April 27, This is My City Festival will be returning to the city for it’s fifth year. From film, to art exhibits and music performances, this festival brings art of any form together with a theme of being human on a small planet. The artwork is all created by marginalized, homeless and at-risk Calgarians. For more information, visit their site here.
Make It: Calgary’s Handmade Market
This craft fair is coming to the Big Four Building in Calgary April 7-9 with more than 175 vendors with unique handmade goods to sell. Whether you’re extremely into supporting local creatives, or want to take advantage of the food trucks and beer garden, this event should be fun! Tickets are $5 at the door and $3 in advance. Adults Only Night: The Final Frontier
Are you a lover of all things Star Trek? Then this event may be for you! On April 13, the Telus Spark Science Centre has made the theme of their next Adults Only Night “The Final Frontier” in celebration of their Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience exhibit. Since this is an adult only event, there will be a fully licensed bar and of course: dancing! The event will take place from 6p.m. to 10p.m. and tickets are $19.95. Acadia Vintage Retro and Antiques Show
This event is perfect for all the vintage and antique collectors out there! There will be a variety of antiques available for sale and an antique identification clinic to determine how vintage and how valuable your own items may be. This event takes place in the Acadia Recreation Complex April 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and April 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m.. Admission is $6 and more information can be found here.
Calgary Spoken Word Festival
In celebration of National Poetry Month, Calgary is hosting their annual Spoken Word Festival. The weekend begins with a workshop with Lorna Crozier at Hotel Arts on April 22, followed by two events on April 23 and 24 at Festival Hall. HOMO-CIDAL at Twisted Element
Who doesn’t love staying out until 2a.m. on a Sunday in the name of drag? On April 30, HOMO-CIDAL, a punk-comedy drag troupe from Edmonton will be performing at Twisted Element. They are one of the most celebrated names in Edmonton Drag and will only be performing at Twisted for one night. This event is at 10p.m. and has no cover.
