A thank you letter to Femme Wave

By: Kennedy Enns and Amber McLinden

With Femme Wave officially ending tonight at the closing gala Un_form, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the past week.

We were incredibly excited to help out the festival with media coverage beforehand and to photograph the amazing sets over the four-day festival. Leading up to the Thursday night Cabaret, Femme Wave was all we could talk about and throughout the entire festival there wasn’t a single set that didn’t leave us in awe.

The importance of highlighting artists that are women, non-binary and transgender individuals is one that we at Vamp take extremely serious, and one that we integrate in our website and personal work. Femme Wave creates an important space for people who otherwise aren’t recognized in mainstream arts, music, and culture spaces.

Over the course of Femme Wave we were lucky enough to make new friends, talk and listen to so many talented artists that leaving on Sunday brought us to tears.

Thank you to the volunteers, the artists, venues, and fellow audience members. But, most importantly, thank you to Femme Wave for making a space in Calgary to showcase the work and the voices of artists that are so often left behind. We can’t wait until next year.

Artists – feel free to reach out to Vamp for coverage. Our purpose is to provide media for a similar audience and want to make sure that amazing people like yourselves get the publicity you deserve.

Check back tomorrow for our photo gallery and later next week for interviews with some of the artists we talked to during Femme Wave.
