Pinterest Hack: DIY Spa Kit

This time of year can be tough. The gifts and gravy of the holiday season are over, but spring isn’t yet in sight. You can often find me Googling “how to become Insta famous and travel with only $7 in my bank account.” The results are minimal.

Now is as good a time as any to pamper yourself. But like travelling, you can’t get much from a spa with only $7. So, the procrastinating university student within me put down my homework and turned to Pinterest. Here I found a DIY spa kit that is both easy and cheap: win-win!

Peppermint Body Scrub

  •       1 cup sugar
  •       1/4 cup coconut oil
  •       5-8 drops peppermint essential oil (or whatever scent you like)
  •       2 drops red food coloring
  •       1 1/2 pint canning jar

Microwave coconut oil until melted. Mix sugar and coconut oil. Add in food coloring until desired peppermint color. Add in peppermint oil and jar.

I used a coarse raw sugar that I picked up from my local health food store for a deeper scrub.

Peppermint Whipped Body Butter

  •       1 cup pure cocoa butter
  •       1 ½ cup coconut oil
  •       4 drops peppermint essential oil
  •       2 drops red food coloring

In a double boiler melt coconut oil and cocoa butter together. Put in fridge till opaque. Mix with hand mixer until fluffy. Add in food coloring and peppermint oil, then jar.

Peppermint Foot Soak

  •       1 cup Epsom salts
  •       1/2 cup baking soda
  •       1/2 cup sea salt
  •       2 drops red food coloring
  •       5 drops peppermint essential oil

Combine all ingredients except food coloring. Once well combined add in 2 drops of food coloring and stir with a fork to create a candy cane look, then jar.

Some of these ingredients you may not have on hand, but are easy to find. I picked up the coarse raw sugar, peppermint oil, sea salt, and Epsom salt from a local health food store. I get my coconut oil and cocoa butter from Superstore.

There you go, an easy DIY spa kit to pamper yourself with or send to a friend in need of a little TLC.
