10 Netflix movies for the first date
It’s Thursday night and you have finally worked up the courage to invite that person you’ve been talking to on Tinder for two weeks over for a movie night. You’ve already spent 3 hours prepping for this “casual first date”. You’ve shaved your legs, moisturized, washed your hair, and achieved the no-makeup-makeup-look. You also frantically cleaned your entire apartment, lit a candle, and hid your pile of pizza boxes. After the “I’m here” text and awkward hellos, (because no one really knows the proper way to meet a Tinder date… do you hug? do you shake hands? I don’t know, still working on it) you settle onto the couch. No matter who the person is sitting next to you the following scene is guaranteed to happen 99 percent of the time:
“What do you want to watch?”
“Umm, I don’t know. It doesn’t matter to me.”
“Ok well I don’t know either. What kind of movies do you like?”
“I don’t know…all movies. You just pick.”
And then one you gets stuck sitting next to this indecisive date slightly sweating, fearing that you will pick a movie they’ve already seen or a movie that they hate. It is a serious problem in today’s dating scene, but I am here to help.
With this list of 10 go-to-movies for a first date, you will never have to find yourself in this dreadful situation again. Open up your Netflix and pick with confidence that your movie choice is sure to be a banger.
- Endless Love
Any man you are on a date with will protest saying it’s such a chick flick, but guaranteed he won’t take his eyes off the screen. You guys can laugh at the cheesy yet kind of sweet scenes throughout.
- Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
With this classic you don’t have to fear a lackluster hour and a half. If your dates not a fan, you probably shouldn’t be dating them.
- When a Stranger Calls
Horror movies are my favourite go-to. This one isn’t scary enough that you will be scared to sleep alone after, but just scary enough that it will give you opportunities to slyly sneak comfort from your date.
- Knocked Up
A slightly raunchy movie that will promise a couple laughs. It is also a great reminder to use protection if you decide to take the date to the bedroom.
- Mean Girls
Who hasn’t seen Mean Girls? No one. This is the perfect movie to put on if you and your date can’t keep talking and just need some background noise, or if you just want something to play while you make out.
- Amanda Knox
A documentary is a way to spice up the typical movie night. It will also most likely lead to a heated debate; a great way to break the ice.
No better way to lock your date in than to make them watch all four Jaws movies. A little bit scary, pretty cheesy, but always a solid choice.
- 50 First Dates
A great movie if you’re looking for a couple laughs. Also a very fitting title.
- Big Daddy
Another Adam Sandler movie because you can never have too much Adam Sandler. Ok, no you definitely can but, this is a cute and funny movie everyone enjoys.
- How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days
No one does romance like Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Watch this with your date and it’s almost impossible not to feel a connection afterwards. Love is in the air with this one.
There you have it, 10 movies for your next first date. Keep this list handy to avoid the typical awkward movie selection debate. I hope you find them helpful, and that they lead you to love. If it doesn’t lead to a second date, don’t blame it on the movie choice.
