Just roll with it
DelloR ice cream is the newest Instagram famous food trend to hit Calgary. Started by friends Dan Bui and Rebecca Chen, DelloR ice cream is not your traditional ice cream shop. Instead they’ve adopted a pop up model and a technique originally popularized in South East Asia.
When nearing the end of their business degrees Bui and Chen weren’t inspired by what was offered in the corporate world so instead they chose to follow their passions and create their own jobs.
After coming home from a trip to Vietnam and discovering there was
“almost no place in Canada” to get rolled ice cream, Bui and Chen decided to bring the creation to Calgary. In order to make their signature rolls, DelloR starts with their homemade ice cream batches, adds their toppings – which can include graham crackers, oreos or fresh fruit – chops up their ingredients and then spreads them on a cold plate to be rolled. The result is their crepe-looking ice cream.
With fresh ingredients and a passion for what they do Bui and Chen found a niche market for their business that stuck. DelloR has received an “overwhelmingly positive” response from Calgarians. With almost no marketing, DelloR has succeeded due to word of mouth and a strong social media presence and of course, their delicious and original ice cream.
